What Critics Have To Say About The NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 is finally out and the reviews keep pouring. We’ve seen what players have to say about the game, now it’s time to listen to the opinions of professional game reviewers. As you can imagine, the critics are more lenient about the game than the players.

NBA 2K21 was praised for the gameplay. The truth is if you want to play a basketball-themed NBA game there aren’t many choices out there. NBA 2K dominates this area for many years. The new installment is a good game but the problem is it is not much different from its predecessor. The new shooting system is among the few updates. This year’s game introduces stick shooting whose goal is to put more control in the hands of the player. This new mechanic is a bit difficult to get used to but once you master it, it will become the go-to shooting style.

The old button shooting is still in the game but you really should give the new system a chance. The overall on the court gameplay was well received. This is the most realistic basketball-themed game. The way players move and perform actions is worth the money. The problem is that you will not get away with the initial purchase.

Just like last year’s game and a few others before it, NBA 2K21 relies on microtransactions. This model is still just as aggressive. It’s obvious that the people behind the game want to make you spend additional money on VC, and it’s no small amount we are looking at.

If you want to unlock all the features and content gated behind paywalls, you will end up spending a lot of money. While it is true that you can earn VC by playing the game, it will not be enough to give you immediate access to everything. You will end up choosing between MyCareer, MyTeam, and The Neighborhood as these are some of the modes that are very VC demanding.

If you have the pre-order bonus for MyTeam, you are off to a good start as the bonus includes some really nice players. These are better than the ones you’ll pull from packs bought from the store. You can play MyTeam offline and limit your NBA 2K21 MT coins and VC spending but most of the fun is online.

The graphics are not that different either. NBA 2K21 and NBA 2K20 look very much the same. Maybe we will see a significant graphics update when the game releases on next-gen consoles.
